Yeaton Eyes Europe
The Royal Gazette - Bermuda

Diners in Europe and Canada may be about to sample for the first time the delights of one of Bermuda's best-known companies - Outerbridge's Peppers Ltd.
Owner Mr. Yeaton Outerbridge, whose sherry pepper sauce is virtually a national institution in Bermuda is looking at expanding his market to both areas.  His range of 17 sauces and jellies is already distributed to all 50 states in the US.
He said: "I'm looking at both of these areas for the first time.  I've already had some interest from Europe following an article featuring Bermuda in a West German magazine called Ambiente, which is their equivalent of Good Housekeeping".
And he also revealed a secret about his sherry pepper sauce which will surprise most diners, even Bermudians who have been putting it in their fish chowder for nearly 30 years.  He has been increasing its strength by about four percent every two or three years.  He added: " When I first brought it out it was very hot and people complained that it spoilt their food.  So we reduced its strength by 70 percent and have gradually increased it to about 45 percent of what it originally was.  People's tastes are becoming much more geared to hot food."
His business which is based at Parsons Lane, near Hamilton, received a big boost last December when he clinched his biggest contract, with Haddon House to distribute his products at their 14,000 outlets in the United States.
His newest product, Sherry Rum Peppers Sauce, which was introduced nearly two years ago, is steadily increasing its sales at home and in the United States.
