The Prince and The Pepper
The Mid Ocean News

I happened to be dining with that bon vivant Wolcott Huston Outerbridge at "Whosholme in Paget the other evening and noticed, on the wall, a framed letter addressed to him from Buckingham Palace. Now he may be a remarkable sort of cove in many ways, but this really brought the old Somerset instinct for prying to the fore.  Normally, you can never get Outerbridge to stop talking, but on this occasion he was reticent and really rather becomingly modest about his Royal connection.  It was agony for a scribe.
However, eventually managed to pry the story out of him.  We all remember when Prince Charles and Princess Dianna briefly stopped over in Bermuda on the way back from their holiday in the Bahamas.  Friend Outerbridge happened to be seeing some clients off at the airport at the same time.  And when this royalist and admirer of the beautiful Princess heard the Royal Couple was aboard the plane, he thought to himself:  this is a great opportunity!
"It was after reporters had been so nosy on their holiday" Outerbridge said with a significant look in my direction.  "anyway," he continued; "I dashed into the airport shop and bought them a bottle of the famous Outerbridge's Sherry Peppers, had it wrapped and attached my card."
"I asked a BA stewardess if she would be kind enough to give the Royal Couple this present." he said.  "and she said she would as it would give her a great excuse to say hello." "But I thought they probably would never get it because of security," he said.  "And I thought no more about it." "But much to my surprise, a few weeks ago I got a letter from Buckingham Palace thanking me for my gift."  he said with evident pleasure.
Outerbridge luck, I'd say.
