Outerbridge subject of 'devilishly hot'
spread
The Royal Gazette - Bermuda
Bermudian businessman Mr. Yeaton Outerbridge has been
given some hot publicity in the April edition of Islands magazine.
In a five-page spread titled "Devilishly Hot", Bermuda writer
Mr. Edward Bottone tells the story of Outerbridge's Sherry Peppers,
giving some of the Outerbridge's famous recipes which call for a dash of
sherry peppers.
"In 1964, Yeaton and his restaurateur cousin Robbie, decided to
bottle commercially what everyone had been making at home for
generations - sherry peppers" Mr. Bottone said.
"The origin of sherry peppers goes back to the 19th century
when imaginative sailors of the Royal Navy began fortifying casks of
sherry with hot peppers and spices to concoct an all-purpose
seasoning."
In an interview with Mr. Outerbridge the reader is taken through a
history of the family, the sherry pepper business, and fed with some
good old Bermudian favourites, like fish chowder and dark n' stormies.
Recipes include Bermuda fish chowder, Bailey's Bay shrimp, cod-fish
cakes, rib-eye steaks with brandy sauce, and cinnamon sugar banana
fritters. All recipes were
taken from Outerbridge's Original Sherry Peppers Cookbook, which was
published last year.
Islands Magazine is published in Santa Barbara, California and has
